Inception Art Show

I had a wonderful weekend at Dalkeith Country Palace last weekend. It was a collection of over thirty of the best contemporary British artists curated by the estate of the Duke of Bucchleuch. He himself bought one of my Breath Series drawings last year. Another of my pieces made it into the family this year, what an honour!

I love participating in the show and am hoping to be invited back in September.

Inception exhibition at Dalkeith Palace

JOIN ME AT INCEPTION || An art show to be held at Dalkeith Palace from 06 – 08 May 2022.

Inception returns to Dalkeith Palace, showcasing a curated collection of contemporary artists.

The art show launched in 2021 to celebrate the re-emergence of artists after the long hiatus suffered by the creative industries during the pandemic.

Following its resounding success last year, this celebration of creativity continues to develop. For its second incarnation, Inception has invited an inspirational collection of modern and contemporary artists, sculptors, photographers and painters to share their work.

As Inception is an art sales exhibition, you will have the opportunity to purchase the artwork during the show. Entry slots are open every hour, however you are welcome to stay and enjoy the exhibition for longer after arrival. I very much look forward to welcoming you at Inception.

The show is open from 10am – 4pm on 6-8 May. Entrance tickets cost £3 and are now on sale.

Visitor parking is a short two minute walk from Dalkeith Palace. If accessible parking is required, please contact the events team who can make alternative arrangements.

You will find me in the Morning Room, a fantastic space with lots of light.

I’ll be exhibiting amongst other artists I admire, including:

  • Richard Goldsworthy
  • Walter Dalkeith

There will be a pop-up shop within the Palace where it will be possible to purchase my limited-edition prints.

All the framed original works I am showing will also be for sale. I look forward to seeing you over the exhibition weekend if you can make it.

Imagine Peace

One of my most meaningful drawings, ‘Imagine Peace’, has been made available as a limited edition print with fifty percent of profits going to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis appeal. These are very large and very high quality prints.

Click here for more details and to buy a print in support of Ukraine.

‘Breathing’ selected for the 196th RSA annual exhibition.

I am delighted to say that one of my favourite and most meaningful drawings has been selected to hang in the Royal Scottish Academy galleries. This is my second time in the gallery within a year and the honour is not passing me by. The exhibition has many of Scotland and the world’s best artists alongside mere mortals like myself.

‘Breathing’ is available to buy from the exhibition. The RSA are part of ‘Own Art’ scheme so it is possible to pay in 10 interest free instalments of £95.

Inception exhibition at Dalkeith Palace

JOIN ME AT INCEPTION || A brand-new art show to be held at Dalkeith Palace from 10th-12th September 2021.

Meet Inception. An exciting new art sales exhibition launching this September, showcasing the work of handpicked British artists. In a world adapting to Covid-19, Inception has been created to allow artists, who have endured extremely tough times over these past 20 months, to collaboratively present their collections to the public. Artists’ collections will be shown in ‘found spaces’ within the wonderful Dalkeith Palace.

An impressive roll call of respected artists, sculptors and painters have already signed up to present their work. Pop onto the event page for a full list of exhibitors.

The show is open from 10am – 5pm on 10th-12th September. Entrance tickets cost £2.50 and are now on sale.

New website now live!

I have a new website! I have added new galleries describing some of the recent series I have been working on. My ‘Breath Series’ is now all in one place and easy to find. I am hoping you will find it much easier to navigate.

All the most recent events, awards and exhibitions are now in a blog on the home page so you can see what I have been up to.

You can also sign up to my email newsletter from the bottom of the homepage so you never need to miss another exhibition or open studio.

Open Studio

Come and meet Gill

Last day Monday 9th, Scottish restrictions are lifted so just turn up.

Fri 6 — Mon 9 August 2021, 11am — 6pm each day

This year Gill’s open studio weekend will be more spectacular than ever. She’s had plenty of time to make new work and was awarded a residency at Marchmont House during March this year. You will be able to see the work produced there and also her response to the pandemic in a series entitled ’Breath’.

Visit the studio showing work in progress and see recent work hung throughout the rest of the house.

The Artist’s House, Allanbank Courtyard, Allanton, Duns, TD11 3PY

Gill’s studio is situated eight miles inland from the A1 at Berwick-upon-Tweed with its train station. By road it is 75 mins south of Edinburgh and 90 mins north of Newcastle.

BOOKING IN ADVANCE for parties arriving by car is essential. We will be doing it slightly differently this year; to allow distancing and sufficient car parking spaces we are offering free, timed tickets half an hour apart:

  • Please park in Gill’s drive (three spaces are available) or on the street.
  • Tickets are per car.

Book a car parking slot

If you are walking, cycling or travelling by bus (yes, there is a number 260 bus stop just outside Gill’s house, but they are rare so check timetable) then there is no need to book but please respect any social distancing regulations that may be in place.

Our neighbours down the road at Allanbank Mill Steading will be open over the same weekend. Allanbank Mill Steading Situated in the rural open landscape of the Scottish Borders, is the home and studios of the artists, Pauline Burbidge and Charlie Poulsen.

Unfortunately, Allanbank Arts will not be open this year.

Residency at Marchmont House

This wonderful opportunity was awarded by The Borders Art Fair in collaboration with Marchmont House. I was selected alongside my very dear friend and wonderful multidisciplinary artist, Rebekah Tolley Georgiou, to spend the month of March 2021 in the tower of the creative spaces at Marchmont. My remit was to develop a body of work which reflected how it felt to be living in a pandemic. I called this series ‘Breath’. The whole experience was wonderful and I am proud of the work I did there.

The ‘Breath Series has it’s own dedicated gallery on my website and has proven to be very successful. I believe it really tapped into the feel of our current times.
